While silver is an excellent conductor and widely used in wires and cables, it is not used in optical fiber. This is because optical fiber communication operates on the principle of total internal reflection of light, not current conduction. Therefore, optical fiber does not require conductive materials to transmit signals. Furthermore, silver is expensive and relatively heavy, making it unsuitable for applications requiring lightweight and high-efficiency optical fiber communication.
